Abstract

Based on data from Palembang Health Office 2018 there were 1.380 food processing places that do not meet the food safety requirements. Foodborne disease can be caused by several factors, including poor sanitation which can attract various vectors, such as flies. The purpose of this research was to analyze the relationship of sanitary condition with high fly density at food vendors around Ampera Bridge. This research applied cross-sectional design with a sample size of 103 samples chosen with purposive sampling. The data was analyzed by using univariate anlysis, bivariate analysis (chi-square test), and multivariate analysis (logistic regression). The bivariate analysis results indicated a significant relationship between high fly density occurance among food vendors and location (p-value=0,029), fly prevention facilities (p-value=0,018), and no significant relationship between high fly density and food serving area condition, trash can condition, sink condition, temperature, and humidity. The multivariate analysis results showed that fly prevention facilities have the most significant impact on high fly density with a p-value 0,010 ; PR=3,388 ; CI=1,335-8,599. This research concluded that there is a significant relationship between the variables of location and fly prevention facilities with high fly density among food vendors. Additionally, the fly prevention facilities variable was found to have the most significant influence on the fly high density among food vendors around Ampera Bridge. The food vendors are expected to used fly traps for chase away as a fly prevention facilities and maintain sanitary condition in food processing places to reduce the density of flies.
