Abstract
Hyperuricemia is a condition where there is an increase in uric acid levels in the blood and can be treated, one of which is using allopurinol drugs, but the use of allopurinol can cause side effects so medicinal plants are needed in treatment. Arm (L. lavandulaefollia) is a medicinal plant that has been used in traditional medicine for antipyretic, antidiarrheal, and anti-inflammatory therapy. This study aims to determine the antihyperuricemia activity of ethanol extract of armpit leaves in male white rats of the Wistar strain induced by chicken liver juice and melinjo seeds. Extraction was carried out by the maceration method. Extracts were standardized and antihyperuricemia testing was carried out using 35 mice consisting of 7 groups, namely the normal group, the negative control group (Na-CMC), the positive control group (allopurinol), and the 100 mg/kgBW (P1), 200 mg/kgBW (P2), 400 mg/kgBW (P3), and 800 mg/kgBW (P4) treatment groups. To get hyperuricemia, rats were given chicken liver juice and purine rich melinjo seeds. The measurement of uric acid levels was carried out by enzymatic method using the uric acid reagent TBHBA. Uric acid level measurements were carried out on days 0, 15, 20, 25, and 30. The results of standardization showed that the ethanol extract of arm leaf met the parameters of the extract requirements. The results of the antihyperuricemia test of ethanol extract showed that hyperuricemia was active and the highest activity was shown at a treatment dose of 800 mg/kgBW with a % decrease of 66.34%. Positive control of allopurinol provided antihyperuricemia activity by 67.05%. Based on statistical analysis, there was no significant difference (P> 0.05) between the 200, 400, and 800 mg/kgBW dose treatment and the allopurinol group but there was a significant difference (P<0.05) with the 100 mg/kgBW dose treatment. Ethanol extract showed an effective dose value (ED50) of 393.02 mg/kgBW. Based on the data, it is concluded that EEDL has the potential to be developed as a raw material for hyperuricemia drugs.
