Abstract

Environmental damage and pollution is mostly caused by human activities in the form of industrial, mining, agricultural and urban waste which pollutes the water environment. Nanofiber was chosen in this research because of its ability to bind metal ions, while electrospinning was used to produce nanofiber with good adsorption properties. The synthesis process was carried out by varying the concentration of PVA and gelatin to obtain the characteristics of NF-IIPs Pb(II) nanofibers. Nano fibers were synthesized using variations of PVA/Gelatin 7/5% wt and 5/5% wt using the electro-spinning method. Based on the SEM characterization results, the most voids were found in Nf-IIPs-Pb(II), namely the 5/5% wt PVA/Gelatin variation. These results are supported by a material adsorption test using a test solution of 20 ppm in 10 mL which was then characterized using AAS and obtained the adsorption capacity of NF-IIPs Pb(II) which was synthesized using variations of PVA/Gelatin 5%/5% wt with a needle distance of 12 cm with a voltage of 12 kV, namely 0.33 mg/g. This research concludes that the combination of Nf-IIPs Pb(II) with varying concentrations of PVA/gelatin in the electrospinning method produces nanofibers that are effective in reducing Pb(II) ion pollution in the aquatic environment.
