Abstract

PT Timah Tbk is a tin mining company that uses bucket-type dredgers for offshore mining. These dredgers excavate tin ore material from the seabed, including in situ material, overburden, and ore. In 2022-2023, the Kapal Keruk 21 Singkep 1 operated in the Laut Air Kantung, Bangka, using jigs to separate valuable minerals during the tin ore washing process. However, the recovery results for both the concentrate and tailing often fall below the company's standard of 95.50%, indicating a need for further evaluation of the equipment and other variables. Calculating tin reserves is also essential in planning exploitation and determining the appropriate mining methods. This study focuses on optimizing tin reserves in the area previously mined by Kapal Keruk 21 Singkep 1, which can help extend the life of the mine, improve local and national economies, and reduce the environmental impact of mining activities. The area of ex-mining sites is favored for re-mining using other equipment because the lithology has already been disturbed, and the pit walls contain marginal tin reserves. This research supports sustainable resource management and promotes using more efficient extraction technologies, improving environmental quality, and enhancing the surrounding community’s economy. xii In the new drilling activities, 21 boreholes were conducted in the area of the former mining site of Kapal Keruk 21 Singkep 1 in the Laut Air Kantung during the 2022-2023 period, with six boreholes showing economic tin content above 0.051 kg/m³. Tin-bearing layers were found between depths of -43 to -46 meters, indicating that the area has not yet been excavated to reach bedrock. Stratigraphic analysis revealed differences between the in situ and disturbed layers due to backfilling activities, with the in situ layers consisting of a sequence from clay to the kaksa layer, containing up to 13.058 kg/m³ of tin. Reserve estimation was carried out using the polygon method, which identified four blocks with economic tin content above 0.051 kg/m³. The mining plan then established four work blocks to be operated by the Kapal Isap Produksi, with a total calculated tin reserve of 98 tons of Sn.
