Abstract

Lawsonia inermis L. is one of the traditional medicinal plants that are effective as analgesics. The analgesic effect was related to the ability of the substance to reduced uric acid levels (antihyperuricemia). This study aims to determine the antihyperuricemia activity of ethanol extract of L. inermis leaves using male white rats of the Wistar strain induced in hyperuricemia condition. The study began with Extraction of henna leaves by the maceration method using 96% ethanol. The extract then was standardized and tested the antihyperuricemia activity. The antihyperuricemia test used 35 male white rats and divided into 7 groups: normal group, positive group (allupurinol), negative group (Na-CMC), treatment group with extract doses of 100, 200, 400, and 800 mg/kg BW. The results showed that the extract met the extract standardization parameters. The extract showed antihyperuricemia activity and a dose of 800 mg/kg BW had the highest antihyperuricemia activity compared to other doses. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference (p>0.05) between the 800 mg/kg BW dose group and the positive control (allopurinol) but significantly different from the other treatment groups, but there was no significant difference (p>0.05) between the 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg BW treatment groups. The extract showed a 50% effective dose value (ED₅₀) of 398.622 mg/kg BW. Based on the results of this study, the ethanol extract of L. inermis leaves has the potential to be developed as a natural ingredient in hyperuricemia therapy.
