Abstract

Perkembangan Kota Palembang paska PON XVI 2004, yang berubah menjadi lebih maju dan menarik seiring dengan bermunculannya bangunan-bangunan baru secara signifikan. Ibukota Provinsi Sumsel diberi julukan “ Palembang sebagai Kota Wisata Sungai oleh Presiden RI Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono pada 25 September 2005. Hal ini meningkatkan kunjungan wisatawan baik domestik maupun mancanegara ke provinsi Sumatera Selatan yang kemudian melatarbelakangi munculnya program VISIT MUSI 2008 dalam rangka mempromosikan pariwisata Kota Palembang dan Sumatera Selatan secara keseluruhan. Tujuan dari program ini adalah meningkatkan pariwisata yang kemudian berdampak pada peningkatan kondisi perekonomian daerah. Objek-objek wisata di Sumatera Selatan yang tersebar di 15 Kabupaten/Kota di Sumsel belum dikenal oleh masyarakat. Hal ini disebabkan oleh manajemen pariwisata Sumsel yang belum terorganisir dengan baik, serta kurangnya informasi mengenai objek wisata tersebut. Hal-hal tersebut perlu ditunjang dengan adanya satu tempat khusus yang menjadi Pusat Informasi Industri Pariwisata Sumatera Selatan ‘ one stop information ' bagi wisatawan baik domestik maupun mancanegara, untuk mencari tahu informasi tentang industri pariwisata di Sumatera Selatan Oleh karena itu, dibuat perencanaan dan perancangan PUSAT INFORMASI INDUSTRI PARIWISATA SUMSEL sebagai salah satu alat penunjang kepariwisata
