Abstract
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks and damages the human immune system, making sufferers susceptible to various infectious diseases. HIV is an infectious disease that can endanger safety and health, especially for pregnant women because it can be transmitted to the fetus. Efforts to prevent contagious diseases in pregnant women need to be made as early as possible through HIV examination during pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to analyze the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women toward HIV examination behavior in Gelumbang District. The research method used a quantitative design that was descriptive and analytical with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique was purposive random sampling, namely 231 pregnant women with a questionnaire as the data collection instrument. Data analysis used univariate analysis, and bivariate analysis with correlation tests. The results of the study using the correlation test showed that there was no relationship between knowledge and the behavior of pregnant women in HIV examinations. Still, they had a weak positive correlation (p = 0.739, r = 0.022) meaning that the better the knowledge of pregnant women regarding HIV examination during pregnancy, the more likely they are to undergo HIV examination. Meanwhile, attitudes have a relationship with the behavior of pregnant women in HIV testing with a weak positive correlation strength (p = 0.007, r = 0.176) meaning that the more positive the attitude of pregnant women regarding HIV, the more likely they are to have an HIV test during pregnancy. Based on these findings, pregnant women are expected to increase their understanding of HIV through trusted sources of information such as health workers and experienced loved ones, as well as increase their positive attitudes towards HIV testing to prevent the transmission of diseases that can endanger the health of mothers and babies.
