Abstract
The mother's personal hygiene behavior affects the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers because the mother as the closest person to the toddler plays a dominant role in taking care of her child's needs. The worse the mother's personal hygiene, the higher the risk of diarrhea in children. According to the Prabumulih City Health Office in 2022, the Prabumulih Barat Health Center Working Area was in second place with 184 cases of diarrhea in toddlers. This shows that there are risk factors that have not been resolved properly, especially in maternal hygiene practices. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between maternal personal hygiene practices and cases of diarrhea in toddlers in the Prabumuliih Barat Health Center working area, Prabumulih City. This research is quantitative with a cross-sectional research design. The sample in this study amounted to 90 respondents who were taken with simple random sampling technique. The results showed a significant relationship between the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers with family income p-value (0.001), hand washing habits p-value (0.000), food management practices p-value (0.000), and diaper disposal behavior p-value (0.002). The most dominant factor was hand washing habits p-value (0.000) with a PR value = 11.134. It is concluded that there is a significant relationship between family income, hand washing habits, food management practices, and diaper disposal behavior with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in the Prabumulih Barat Health Center Working Area. Suggestions from this study, mothers of toddlers should be able to apply the habit of washing hands with soap and running water in the household scope appropriately, accompanied by education and intervention from the health center to reduce the risk of diarrhea in toddlers.
