Abstract

Methane gas from rumen fermentation is part of greenhouse gases, contributing to global warming. Various methane gas mitigation efforts to reduce the greenhouse gas effect occur, including feed additives and supplements, ruminant feces management, microbial engineering, and so on. One of the efforts that can be made is feed additives using Non Protein Nitrogen (NPN) Ruminofrass. The purpose of this research is to study the effect of the addition of NPN Ruminofrass in Pakchong Grass silage on methane gas production and its digestibility quality in vitro. This research was conducted from October to November 2024 at the Animal Nutrition and Food Laboratory, Animal Husbandry Study Program, Department of Animal Husbandry Technology and Industry, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) method with 4 treatments and 5 replicates. The treatments consisted of P0 (Pakchong grass), P1 (Pakchong grass silage) P2 (Pakchong grass + 5% NPN Ruminofrass) and P3 (Pakchong grass silage + 5% NPN Ruminofrass). The parameters observed were gas production (mL), dry matter digestibility (KBK) (%), Total Vollatile Fatty Acids (VFA)(mM), methane concentration (%), and degree of acidity (pH) in vitro. The results of the study on the parameters dry matter digestibility (DMD) and total VFA (mM) showed results that had a significant effect (P <0.05). While in the parameters of gas production (mL), Methane Concentration (%), and Degree of Acidity (pH) showed results that had no significant effect (p>0.05) in vitro. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that Pakchong Grass with Ruminofrass feed in vitro is able to reduce gas production and methane concentration and has a high value of dry matter digestibility (KBK) and Total VFA.
