Abstract
The research objective was to determine the effect of several calorific collectors on kemplang drying process. This study was conducted on the field of Plant Pest and Disease Department as well as Biosystem Laboratory of Agricultural Technology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. It was carried out from February 2012 to February 2013. This study used decriptive method through direct observation and the results were presented in tabular and graphical forms. The observed parameters were material water content, drying rate, drying capacity, drying energy requirement and drying efficiency. The results showed that average water content of stone collector, corrugated zinc collector and flat zinc collector were 9.56%, 8.49% and 7.98%, respectively. The drying rate for stone collector was 109.3 g.h'1 which was lower than that of corrugated and flat zinc collectors with magnitude of 110.7 g.h'1 and 111.4 g.h'1. The efficiencies of stone collector, corrugated zinc collector and flat zinc collector were 17.15%, 20.41% and 27.83%, respectively. The stone collector had the lowest drying efficiency of 37.59%, whereas flat zinc collector had the highest drying efficiency of 67.98% and drying efficiency of corrugated zinc collector was 41.18%. The drying capacities for stone collector, corrugated zinc collector and flat zinc collector were 134.29 g.h'1, 137.86 g.h'1 and 139.29 g.h'1, respectively. I
