Abstract
Forage productivity in pastures is influenced by the factor of sufficient land availability in order to meet animal feed maintenance. The problem that often occurs is that seasonal fluctuations also affect livestock productivity. Therefore, the availability of forage is very limited during the dry season and abundant during the rainy season. Efforts to overcome the production of fresh forage in the rainy season and could be utilized in the dry season is by preserving fresh forage in the form of silage which it could be with or without additives. A technology is needed for storage of fresh forage by making silage using the MOSI (Modified Silo) method, which is an airtight technique in the silo using a portable vacuum device. This research aimed was to study the effect of the combination of king grass with lamtoro on the nutritional quality of the resulting silage content. This research was conducted from October to December 2024 at the Experimental Cage and Animal Nutrition and Food Laboratory, Department of Animal Husbandry Technology and Industry, Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications, each treatment used in this study was P0 (100% King Grass), P1 (60% King Grass : 40% Lamtoro), P2 (70% King Grass : 30% Lamtoro), P3 (80% King Grass : 20% Lamtoro). The parameters observed were dry matter, organic matter, crude fiber and crude protein. The data obtained will be analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and if it is known that the effect is significantly different between treatments, it will be continued with Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results of this study showed that the P1 treatment (60% King Grass: 40% Lamtoro) was able to maintain the value of dry matter content (DM) which was 24.00% and organic matter (OM) 23.87% during the silage process. The content of crude fiber (CF) decreased from 23.21% to 17.88% while the observation variable of crude protein (CP) was not significantly different from 14.46% -18.37%.
