Abstract
Hypertension is one of the most common diseases in geriatric patients. The use of various antihypertensive drugs can increase the risk of drug interactions. Drug interactions occur when two or more drugs are given simultaneously, so that they affect each other and have the potential to cause undesirable effects. The purpose of this study was to identify patterns of antihypertensive drug interactions and analyze the severity of drug interactions in geriatric hypertensive patients at Siti Fatimah Hospital, South Sumatra Province in 2025. The study was conducted prospectively with a purposive sampling technique. Analysis of drug interactions by assessing patients, reviewing drugs related to patient conditions, and reviewing literature. The results showed that the most patients were female, reaching 57% of hypertension cases found in the elderly age group (60-74 years). All geriatric hypertensive patients who were hospitalized experienced the most comorbidities in coronary heart disease (23.2%). The profile of antihypertensive types shows that the three most widely used antihypertensive groups are Calcium Channel Blockers (33%), Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (29%), diuretics (28%), temporary Beta Blockers (10%). Antihypertensive drug interactions in hospitalized geriatric patients most often occur in the combination of bisoprolol and amlodipine (64%), dominated by pharmacodynamic mechanisms. Keywords: Drug interactions, geriatric patients, antihypertensive therapy.
