Abstract

Alternative renewable fuels are needed in everyday life. Fuels used by the community and industry still use additives that are harmful to industry, the environment and also the community so that alternative additives are needed that are not harmful and environmentally friendly, Several steps can be taken especially for the development of biomass, biogas, bioethanol, biodiesel from vegetable oils. Alcohol is known as a renewable alternative energy source whose compounds can be converted into gasoline by converting alcohol into ether, including diisopropyl ether. Silica preparation was carried out by mixing 50 grams of EDTA with 250 mL of distilled water. The mixture was stirred using a magnetic sitrer for 15 minutes to obtain a clear 10% EDTA solution. Furthermore, Tetraethyl Orthosilicate (TEOS) solution was made by mixing 200 mL of ethanol which was stirred for 15 minutes then mixed with 100 mL of Tetraethyl Orthosilicate (TEOS) then the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes. Next, 20 mL of 10% EDTA solution was added, the mixture was stirred for 3 hours with a magnetic sitrer. After that the solution was added with ± 10 mL ammonia drop by drop. XRD characterization results show that ZrSO4-SiO2 silica is amorphous because there is a broad peak.
