Abstract

Generation Z (Gen Z) is a group of young voters who play a strategic role in shaping the direction of democracy in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the level of political participation of Gen Z in the 2024 General Election in Palembang City. The research method used is quantitative, with data collection techniques through a Likert scale-based questionnaire. The assessment criteria for political participation are categorized into three levels: low (0% - 33.3%), moderate (33.34% - 66.7%), and high (66.7% - 100%). The results of the study indicate that the level of political participation of Gen Z in Palembang City reached 62.3%, which falls into the moderate category. The questionnaire data reveal that although Gen Z shows interest in political issues and actively uses social media as a discussion platform, their involvement in direct political activities such as campaigns, demonstrations, and volunteering for political parties remains relatively low. Additionally, engagement in researching political candidates is not yet optimal, even though social media serves as one of the primary sources of political information for Gen Z. The study concludes that the political participation of Gen Z in Palembang City is relatively significant but still needs to be enhanced to reach the high category. Therefore, more intensive efforts are required to increase political awareness, both through electoral education and the more effective utilization of social media. Thus, it is expected that Gen Z can play a more active role in building a more inclusive and participatory democracy.
