Abstract
This research aims to design and analyze an axial flux permanent magnet generator as an efficient and environmentally friendly low-speed power generation solution, particularly for renewable energy applications such as vertical axis wind turbines. The generator is designed with a single rotor and stator configuration, utilizing 12 neodymium magnets and 12 single-phase copper coils, each consisting of 60 turns. The design process includes theoretical calculations of the induced electromotive force (EMF) based on Faraday’s law, taking into account the coil’s cross-sectional area, number of turns, angular velocity, and magnetic field strength. The theoretical calculation results show an output voltage of 5.99 volts at a rotational speed of 500 RPM. To verify these results, simulations were conducted using MATLAB software, yielding an output voltage close to the theoretical value, specifically 5.95 volts. The simulation also evaluates the effect of varying the distance between magnets on the output voltage, where it was found that closer spacing between magnets increases the induced EMF. The generator was tested under both loaded and unloaded conditions, with results indicating stable and efficient performance.
