Abstract

As one of the key contributors to the economy of the United Kingdom, the tourism sector is fully supported and prioritized by the government. France stands as the top european country in terms of visitor numbers and duration of stays in the UK, largely due to the easy accessibility for French citizens via the EuroTunnel/Eurostar on the GREAT rail routes. The UK's rich cultural heritage has enabled it to compete strongly with other nations in promoting itself, though it was significantly affected between 2020 and 2021 due to Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic. The UK's decision to exit the European Union, coupled with the closure of all borders, prevented tourists from visiting and severely impacted the tourism sector as a whole. This situation compelled the UK to adopt a new tourism strategy. The Quality Tourism theory emphasized the importance of a country delivering high-quality tourism experiences to extend visitors' stays. This research aim to analyze the Quality Tourism strategies employed by the UK to enhance French tourism. The study utilizes a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, relying primarily on literature as the main data source. The findings indicate that in 2024. French tourist visits declined significantly, suggesting that the UK's Quality Tourism strategy has not been successful. This decline is attributed to new policies that complicate travel, such as the introduction of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) and the abolition of tax-free shopping, making the UK one of the most expensive destinations in Europe. This research provides valuable insights into how a country adapts to political changes that impact its tourism sector.
