Abstract
The Kelurahan 23 Ilir Flats are vertical housing units located in the center of Palembang City, allocated for low-income communities. The high population density and poor sanitation conditions are critical issues in this area, potentially leading to environmental pollution and health risks for its residents. This study aims to analyze the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) conditions in the settlement area of the Kelurahan 23 Ilir Flats in Palembang City. This is a qualitative research selected 11 informants using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews using a interview guide, observation with checklists, photovoice and review the document. Data validity in this study was ensured through method triangulation, source triangulation, and data triangulation. The results of the study state that the condition of clean water and drinking water sources is adequate which is sourced from PDAM water, sanitation facilities are not fully adequate such as the condition of the disposal of latrines or septic tanks that are not functioning, open sewage drains and drainage systems that are not functioning optimally, this condition is exacerbated due to the accumulation of unmanaged waste in residential areas, and environmental conditions that have decreased the physical quality of buildings. Additionally, the clean and healthy living behavior of flats remains low. Although the availability of clean water meets standarts, sanitation conditions are still suboptimal. This is indicated by poor physical building conditions, waswater drainage systems and ineffective drainage systems, as well inadequate waste management. The low awareness of residents regarding clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS) further exacerbates the environmental conditions around the residential area. Therefore, comprehensive interventions are needed to improve suistainable WASH.
