Abstract
Exclusive breastfeeding is the process of providing breast milk only to infants during the first 0–6 months of life, without any additional food or drink. This study aims to analyze the application of Social Cognitive Theory in exclusive breastfeeding behavior among mothers of reproductive age in the UPTD Puskesmas Prabumulih Barat area. This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 103 mothers aged 20–35 years who had toddlers (aged 6–24 months), selected through purposive sampling. It was found that 64 mothers (62,1%) practiced exclusive breastfeeding. Furthermore, 43 mothers (81,1%) who received good support from their husbands practiced exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0,000; PR = 5,938), indicating that mothers with strong husband support were 5,9 times more likely to practice exclusive breastfeeding than those with less support. Additionally, 45 mothers (86,6%) with a positive body image engaged in exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0,000; PR = 10,827), meaning that mothers with a positive body image were 10,8 times more likely to breastfeed exclusively compared to those with a negative body image. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between husband support and body image with exclusive breastfeeding behavior among mothers of reproductive age in the UPTD Puskesmas Prabumulih Barat area (p-value = 0,000). It is recommended that mothers improve their motivation and self-confidence during the breastfeeding period by practicing positive affirmations and refining breastfeeding techniques. It is also important for the Puskesmas to develop programs that actively involve husbands in supporting maternal and child health.
