Abstract

Background: Incorrect tooth brushing behavior can cause dental and oral diseases in childhood. Educational media is one of the efforts that can help increase knowledge and awareness of the importance of dental and oral health behavior. Objective: To determine the influence of educational media “daily book challenge” in improving tooth brushing behavior in children aged 10-12 years at SD Islam Az-Zahrah Palembang. Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 36 children divided into a control group and a treatment group. Measurement of children's tooth brushing behavior using a questionnaire and statistical analysis was carried out using the T-Independent test. Result: Statistical analysis showed increasing tooth brushing behavior before and after the implementation of the Daily Book Challenge educational media, with a significance value of p<0.001 (p<0.05). There was a significant difference between the control group and the intervention group, with a significance value of p<0.001 (p<0.05). The use of daily book challenge educational media showed a greater increase in tooth brushing behavior compared to without educational media. Conclusion: The educational media "Daily Book Challenge" has a significant impact on improving the timeliness, frequency, tools, and techniques of toothbrushing among students at Az-Zahrah Islamic Elementary School in Palembang.
