Abstract

The objectives of this research were threefold: 1) to explore ethnomathematics, specifically the mathematical concepts and philosophical values inherent in the Rumah Bari Pesirah Pangkalan Balai building; 2) to develop a valid and practical Junior High School mathematics student worksheet (LKPD) based on the ethnomathematics of Rumah Bari Pesirah Pangkalan Balai; and 3) to assess the potential impact of using this ethnomathematics-based LKPD on students' mathematics learning outcomes. This study employed a qualitative research approach with an ethnographic design. During the exploration phase, data was collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The identified mathematical concepts included geometry (basic shapes, angles, parallelism, perpendicularity, symmetry), measurement (length, width, height, area, perimeter, volume), geometric transformations (translation, rotation), and patterns and congruence. The philosophical values embedded within the building encompassed adaptation and harmony with nature, safety and protection, openness and hospitality, physical and spiritual balance, hope, glory, sustainability, and discipline and diligence. Based on these findings, the research proceeded to develop a Junior High School mathematics student worksheet (LKPD) integrated with the ethnomathematics of Rumah Bari Pesirah Pangkalan Balai. In the development phase, data was gathered via questionnaires, interviews, and tests. This LKPD was rigorously evaluated by experts and deemed highly valid, meeting the criteria for content, construct, and language relevant to the Merdeka Curriculum. Furthermore, the LKPD proved to be highly practical for student use, as evidenced by positive student responses and practicality questionnaires, which showed an average of 89.58% agreement. The application of this LKPD also demonstrated a positive and effective potential impact on students' mathematics learning outcomes, with an 83.9% learning completeness rate. Moreover, it successfully boosted student motivation and appreciation for local culture. Overall, this LKPD effectively enhanced mathematics understanding and learning outcomes while fostering an awareness of rich local cultural heritage.
