Abstract
Composite is a kind of material vvhich is formed by the combination of two or more forming malerials and has different characterislic Ihan its forming component. The usage of composite has been growing rapidly since the composite has ovvn advantages compared to other altemative materials such as the material of composite is stronger, resistant to the corrotion, more economical and many more. This study aims to analyze the mechanical properties of composites with Aluminum from used beverage cans as matrix, while Fly Ash, SiC and A1203 as reinforcement. Aluminum matrix composite casting process is using stir casting method. The parameters used in this casting process are the composition (fly ash 12 wt%, SiC 12 wt% and A1203 12 wt%), stirring speed (100, 200, and 300 rpm), stirring time (2, 4, and 6 min) and the pouring temperature (700, 750 and 800 °C). The specimens were tested for Brinell hardness and tensile strength testing. Moreover, data processing has done for optimization process by using experiment method which is Taguchi method. Based on the result of research, the optimum result of Brinell hardness test using Taguchi method got the most influential parameter to the surface hardness value is the strengthening composition (A factor) with the contribution percentage of 41.979%, the stirring speed (factor B) of 19.828%, the stirring time (factor C) of 7.884% and the pouring temperature (factor D) of 0.675%. The optimum parameters of tensile strength test using Taguchi method is the most influential parameter is the reinforcing composition (factor A) with contribution percentage of 21,514%, stirring time (factor C) of 9,2%, stirring speed (factor B) of-1.391% and the pouring temperature of -4.912%.
