Abstract
Used Aluminum cans are the mosi waste metal, and fly ash is ihe remainder of coal burning. Uiilizalion of waste aluminum cans wilh casting process added fly ash as reinforcing element will produce aluminum matrix composite.The method of casting used is ihe stirring method, with the addition of 12 wt%fly ash . and varia/ions of SiC addition of 5.10 and 15 \v/%, and also added 2.5 wt% Magnesium as wetting. The process of casting is done by process parameter s; 80(fC casting temperatur e, 300 second stirring time, and 350 rpm stirring speed.Testing of stir casting product, impact test. tensile, hardness, Chemical composition, density and Scannning Electron Microscope (SEMj.From the test results obtained the highest impact energy value on aluminum + fly ash 12% + SiC 5% which is 16,144 Joule and energy at the lowest impact on aluminum + fly ash 12% + 15% SiC is 14,732 Joule.From Brinell test results obtained the highest hardness value on aluminum + fly ash 12% + SiC 15% which is 70,089 BHN and the lowest value on aluminum + fly ash 12% + SiC 5% ie 64.505 BHN.From the test results o f Chemical composition the re are still impurities a t the time of casting. Density test results tend t o decrease as the number ofSiC increases. Andfrom the SEM test results there is still porosily that occurs from the castings.
