Abstract
Forging process especially traditional forging using hammer / open die forging is one of the methods t o gain a better mechanical properties with less expensive process. The specimen sustain a deformation because of the force that given by the hammer that cause movement on crystal and causing dislocation on the structure. And because of the forging process could developing residual stress and chance of cracking then done quenching for minimize it to happen. The purpose from the writer is to inspect the influence deformation stages from 20%, 40%, and 60% on mechanical properties and micro structure and observe if the mechanical properties is better than the starting material (raw material) without treatment. From the result of research conducted found that the higher the deformation, the higher the hardness value is obtained. Maximum hardness value obtained from 60% deformation which is 232,182 VHN. Tensile test result also found that the higher the deformation, the higher the tensile value is obtained. Tensile strength value gained from 60% deformation is 78,565 Kgf /mm2 and yield strength 54,450 Kg f /mm2. The result from micro structure test showed that martensite is formed.
