Abstract
Composite is a kind of material which is formed by the combination of two or more forming materials and has different characteristic than its forming component. The usage of composite has been growing rapidly since the composite has own advantages compared to other alternative materials such as the material of composite is stronger, resistant to the corrotion, more economical and many more. Filler is one important part of composite which will increase the strength of a material This research aims to analyze the physical and mechanical of composite while the aluminium as the matrix, whereas SiC and Fly Ash as the strengthener. The alumunium casting process used stir casting method. The parameter that used in this casting process is that volume fraction (8% of SiC and 4%, 8%, 12% of fly ash), the stirring speed (300, 350 and 400 rpm), the stirring time (3,5, and 7 minutes) and the pouring temperature (700, 750 and 800 °C). On those specimens, done the hardness testing and density testing. Moreover, data Processing has done for optimization process by using experiment method which is Taguchi method. Based on the research, the results obtained optimum of hardness testing by using Taguchi method, the paramatere which is most influenced on surface hardness is volume fraction (factor A) with the percentage of 74,19%, the stirring speed (factor B) amounted 10,23%, the time stirring (factor C) is in the amount of 7,09% and the pouring temperature (factor D) amounted -0,29%. Meanwhile, the results obtained optimum of density testing parameter which is most influenced on the density value is volume fraction (factor A) with the percentage of 64,42%, the stirring speed (factor B) amounted in 3,62%, the stirring time (factor C) in amount of -0,02, and the pouring temperature (factor D) is -2,45%. Keywords: Aluminium Matrix Composite, SiC, Fly ash, hardness test, density test, stir casting, Taguchi method.
