Abstract

Using the Show Cave Assessment Model (SCAM) approach, this study assesses the Goa Batu Napal Licin site's potential as a geosite to support the growth of sustainable geotourism in Ulu Rawas District, Musi Rawas Utara Regency. The types of caves, rock properties, and cave features are all identified in this study, which also assesses the site's speleological and tourism value. In order to determine the significance value for each sub-indicator in the SCAM, the research methods include collecting LiDAR data using an iPhone 14 Pro and the Polycam app, mapping using photogrammetry drones, performing petrological and paleontological analyses, and distributing questionnaire surveys to experts and tourists. According to the research findings, Goa Batu Napal Licin is categorised as a cave with a vadose branchwork pattern, which is characterised by the presence of vertical features interspersed with horizontal passages. Composed of limestone and marble from the Mersip Member of the Peneta Formation, the cave features a variety of speleothem features, such as columns, drapes, stalactites, stalagmites, and other formations that add aesthetic and educational value. While paleontological analysis failed to find fossils that could help determine the relative age, petrographic analysis identified the rock as wackestone with a distinctive mineral composition. The show cave assessment method gives objective and thorough results for the improvement of Goa Batu Napal Licin. The SCAM model says that the results of the evaluation on the Scientific and Educational dimensions can be put in order from highest to lowest. The sub-indicators that got the highest score for scientific merit were about cave geology, with a score of 17.75. With a score of 7.25, the archeological heritage component comes in second. The paleontological heritage and cave fauna parts got very low ratings. The aspect of the number of cave rooms that can be visited has the highest aesthetic value, with a total value of 17.75. Speleothems and the land around them got mid-range scores of 17.47 and 14.2, respectively. The lighting system and the quality of the cave ecosystem are the sub-indicators that provide the most protection, with a total value of 17.37 for each. The cave's vulnerability to damage and limits on visitors were given moderate scores, for a total score of 14.4. The cave and its species had the lowest levels of protection, with totals of only 7.65 and 3.65, respectively. The most important sub-indicators for tourism are the placement of lights for tourists in the cave, the closeness of information and tourist centers, the number of interesting sites, and how easy it is to get to the cave. Moderate-value sub-indicators include things like the quality of guiding services, cave maintenance and the infrastructure and amenities that support it, promotion by qualified agents, being close to primary and secondary highways, and the extra natural value around the cave. Sub-indicators with the lowest values Rankings take into account a number of factors, such as the cave's transportation options, the effects of humans on the area around the cave, the number of visitors each year, the frequency of formal visits, the quality of the infrastructure nearby, the rules for cave visitors, the number of pedestrian and tourist paths, the availability of interpretive signs, nearby places to stay and eat, and tourist information centers. Speleological and tourism values are still comparatively low, according to the SCAM assessment (F22), which emphasises the need for improvements in facilities, promotion, conservation, and tourism management. The training of professional tour guides, improvements to facilities and infrastructure (such as interpretive boards, road access, and equipment rentals), and proactive marketing through institutional partnerships and social media are all included in the development recommendations. Goa Batu Napal Licin has a great deal of potential to become a sustainable geotourism destination with the right development, promoting earth science education and benefiting the local economy.
