Abstract

This study aimed to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of polyphenol compounds of Utricularia aurea plants against Escherichia coli bacteria. This study was conducted experimentally in the laboratory. This study used 4 stages, namely the preparation of Utricularia aurea plant extract, total polyphenol testing, TSA media preparation and E. Coli antibacterial activity test with Utricularia aurea plant extract repeated 3 times with concentrations of 0,25 mg/mL, 0,5 mg/mL, 0,75 mg/mL dan 1 mg/mL. The parameters observed in this study included extract yield, total polyphenol analysis and Escherichia coli antibacterial activity test. The results showed that the extract yield was obtained at 32.04 ± 7.76% with a polyphenol content of 82.21 mg GAE / g dry sample. The antibacterial activity test resulted in an increase in sample concentration that was directly proportional to the inhibition of Escherichia coli bacteria. The diameter of the inhibition zone for the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria at a concentration of 1 mg/mL was 3.86 mm. Based on these results, Polyphenol extract from the Utricularia aerea plant is less effective in inhibiting the growth of Eschericia coli bacteria
