Abstract
Preparation of christmas palm seeds ethanol extract and lactic acid bacteria isolate loaded nanoparticle aim to increases the activity of extract as an antidiarrheal therefore inhibiting the diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli . Preparation of christmas palm seeds ethanol extract and lactic acid bacteria isolate for the nanoparticle was done by ionic gelation method. There were three formulas (F) which will be evaluated in this study based on the difference of Ca(OH) 2 concentration, 12.5 mg for F1, 17.5 mg for F2, and 22. 5 mg for F 3 . All formulas produce entrapment efficiency percentage of 75.489 ± 563 ( F1); 76.885 ± 046 ( F2); dan 74.844 ± 724 (F3). The second formula or F2 produce the highest %EE so it was chosen as the optimum formula. The result of nanoparticle characteriz ation for the optimum formula such as average diameter, poly dispersity index (PDI), and zeta potential using particle size analyzer were 1230,1 nm; 0,482; dan 27,5 mV respectively. Ant idiarrheal assay of the optimum formula of 1 gram of extract showed that nanoparticle posses the same antidiarrheal activity as intraperitoneal gentamicin sulfate 8 mg/kg body weight with diarrhea inhibitory activity of 71.539%
