Abstract

Anemia is a condition in which the body has a very small number of red blood cells that results in a low hemoglobin level. Problems that can occur due to anemia, among others, decreased ability to concentrate so that learning ability decreases, low physical endurance so easily tired, decreased physical activity, easy to get sick because of decreased endurance and productivity also decreases. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of nutritional status with anemia status in school-age children. The research design uses a quantitative approach with cross sectional study design. Hemoglobin levels were obtained from blood tests while nutritional status was obtained from Body Mass Index data based on age. In addition, this study also examined the intake of nutrients obtained from 24-hour food recall interviews. Univariate and bivariate data analysis techniques used the exact fisher test. The results showed there was a relationship between nutritional status and anemia status (p=0,009). Based on the results of nutrient intake obtained statistical test results showed there was no correlation between energy intake and anemia status (p=0,217) there was a correlation between protein intake and anemia status (p=0,006) there was no correlation between iron intake and anemia status (p=0,377) and there was no correlation between vitamin C intake and anemia status (p=1,000). From the results of this study it is expected that there is a follow-up from the school to provide nutrition-related education to students, especially knowledge about food sources that are high in protein and iron in order to increase protein and iron intake in preventing and reducing the incidence of anemia in school-age children.
