Abstract

Indigofera zollingeriana is a tropical tree legume plant and has good nutrient content for ruminants. Forage supply is constrained by difficult characteristics in terms of distributors and storage because Indigofera zollingeriana plants as forage feed have bulky and perishable properties so feed processing technology is needed to be more efficient and durable. One of the forage feed processing techniques is formed pellets. The aim of this research was to study the effect of giving Indigofera zollingeriana pellets to gas production, methane gas concentration and acetate concentration: propionate: butyrate in vitro. This research was conducted in October 2018 at the Animal Nutrition and Food Laboratory, Department of Animal Husbandry and Technology, Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The study was conducted in vitro using the experimental method and the data were analyzed by T test with 2 treatments and 5 replications: P0 (100% Concentrated pellets) P1 (Indigofera zollingeriana 70% + 29% bran + 1% premix). The variables observed were gas production, the concentration of methane gas and acetate concentration: propionate: butyrate in vitro. The results showed that significantly different (P <0.05) to the rate of gas production, the concentration of methane gas and the concentration of acetate: propionate: butyrate. The highest value in gas production was found in treatment P1 which is 99.0 mL / hour, the highest value of concentration of methane gas was found in treatment P1 which is 85840.6 ppm, and the value of acetate concentration: propionate: butyrate was highest in treatment P1, 144.66 in acetate.
