Abstract
The study was aimed to assess the effect of organic fertilizer and organic substance from sprouts extract to growth and yield of melon. This research was conducted at Experimental Research Station Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University from October 2016 to February 2017. Design of this study was Randomized Block Design with 7 treatments and 4 replications. Such treatments were P0 = 1,5 kg organic fertilizer, P1 = 1 kg organic fertilizer + 50 g/l sprouts extracts, P2 = 1 kg organic fertilizer + 100 g/l sprouts extracts, P3 = 1 kg organic fertilizer + 150 g/l sprouts extracts, P4 = 1,5 kg organic fertilizer + 50 g/l sprouts extracts, P5 = 1,5 kg organic fertilizer + 100 g/l sprouts extracts and P6 = 1,5 kg organic fertilizer + 150 g/l sprouts extracts. Parameters observed that the length of plants, leaf number, number of stem segments, flowering time, male flowers number and female flowers number, plant fresh weight, plant dry weight, fruit weight, fruit diameter, thickness fruit and the level sweetness of fruit. The result showed that treatment 1,5 kg organic fertilizer + sprout extracts provided the best effect on the growth of melon. This showed on variable fruit weight (1,45 kg), fruit diameter (13,72 cm), and thickness fruit (4,19 cm).
