Abstract

In this current technological era, the Public Library in Bengkulu City, which is still applying the conventional method with the main library collection in the form of printed materials, has a reduction in visitors since 2015 until now. Digitalization of library materials and system activities in the library needs to be done in order to be able to adjust to the habits of the people's behavior today. Through the approach of spatial function and spatial form, efforts in digitalization affect the layout of the space program in the building. In an effort to implement it, the Public Library in Bengkulu City was redesigned to be a digital-based Public Library with a modern architectural style. The use of modern architectural styles is based on the consideration of analyzes conducted so that the library becomes interesting to see and visit. The Public Library, located on Mahoni streets, has a fairly minimal area of land with a large border line. So, to accommodate parking lots and spaces according to existing standards, buildings need to be built with a ground floor used as parking lots. Bengkulu is an earthquake-prone area, so buildings need to be strengthened with earthquake-resistant structures such as brace frames. Library activities are dominant during the day, so the utilization of natural light is preferred by providing openings in library service areas. In the water channel system, the use of the down feed system is more effective in high rise buildings. Meanwhile, fire protection in the collection service area is better to use a carbon dioxide extinguisher so that it does not damage the library collection.
