Abstract
This study aims to obtain information about the effect of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning models on students' critical thinking skills in breathing system material in class XI IPA. The research method used was Quasi Experimental with the research design of Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample of the study was determined using Simple Random Sampling from 3 classes of Srijaya State High School XI Science. Based on class draws, XI IPA 1 which amounted to 30 students was the experimental class and class XI IPA 2 which amounted to 34 was the control class. The method of collecting the data was done by tests in the form of multiple choice questions, observation of the lesson plan implementation and questionnaire responses of students. The results showed an increase in the students' critical thinking skills with the average value of the experimental class initial test was 48.33 and the final test was 79.33, while the initial test of the control class was 37.64 and the final test was 66.91. The t- test showed that the application of the CIRC learning model had a significant influence on students' critical thinking skills in the breathing material of class XI Palembang State Srijaya High School.
