Abstract

Efficient lighting is absolutely necessary for toll roads because of the characteristics of the toll road itself as a freeway that drives the driver to drive faster. The development of video sensors and hardware in video processing can be utilized for vision-based street lighting systems. The Haar Cascade Classifier method is still rarely used to detect and differentiate vehicles and non-vehicles in one image to control the street lights, therefore this research will build a prototype of a light control system based on the Haar Cascade Classifier method. The success of the system in detecting vehicles reached 75% and the level of energy efficiency resulting from this prototype was 0.019 Wh. Thus the Haar Cascade Classifier method can be applied to the process of detecting vehicle objects and can be implemented on a streetlight control system.
