Abstract

The increasing number of the population then the need for land will progressively increase conversion of natural ecosystems into human-made ecosystems, such as agricultural field, settlement, plantation, mining and industry. Such practices lead to land degradation. Current research was conducted to assess the magnitude of land degradation under various landuse. This study revealed that the land conversion had caused degrading impacts on land and soil characteristics. The study further showed that the control lands slightly degraded. While both abanconed and reclaimed tin-minning lands moderately degraded. The limiting factor found in the abandone tin-mining lands included erosion, shallow solum, soil fraction composition, bulk density, permeability and pH.
