Abstract

Synthesis of carbon dots from binchotan Pelawan wood material (Tristaniopsis merguensis) by electrochemical and applied as Cr(VI) fluorescence sensors has been successfully carried out. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in electrolyte concentration and voltage on the carbon dots produced. Electrolytes used in the form of sulfuric acid and potassium hydroxide with variations in the concentration of 8M and 14M and voltage variations 9V and 18V. Carbon dots synthesis was characterized using a Particle Size Analyzer (PSA), Ultraviolet-Visble (Uv-Vis) spectrophotometer, and photoluminescence. The most carbon dots are produced at the highest electrolyte and voltage concentrations. The average particle size obtained from PSA measurements for carbon dots with sulfuric acid electrolytes (694.6 nm) is greater than carbon dots with KOH electrolytes (176.7 nm). The carbon dots with sulfuric acid electrolytes have a polydispersty index (PdI) of 0.273, while carbon dots with KOH electrolytes have a polydispersty index (PdI) of 0.138Sulfuric acid carbon dots succeeded in detecting the presence of metal Cr(VI) through photoluminescence testing which is characterized by a shift in wavelength, where the photoluminescence produced from the Cr(VI) sensor with a concentration of 50 µM produces a peak at a wavelength of 633 nm and for the Cr(VI) sensor with a concentration of 100 µM produces a peak at a wavelength of 620 nm, while for the Cr(VI) sensor with a concentration of 150 µM produces a peak at a wavelength of 612 nm.
