Abstract
This research was conducted to evaluate the use of the Grell 3D Ensemble (G3DE) cumulus scheme in the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model for the forecast of rainfall in the city of Palembang. Global Forecasting System (GFS) data with 3 hour temporal resolution as WRF input data, the comparison data are Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) data with 3 hour temporal resolution and Observation data (BMKG). Verification was done based on daily rainfall intensity categories on the dichotomy test with index values, namely Accuracy, Bias, Threat Score, False Alarm, Probability Of Detection, Correlation Coefficient and RMSE values from 3 observation points (Kenten, SMB II and Unsri BB). Verification results show that the use of the G3DE cumulus scheme in the WRF model in daily rainfall forecasts is good enough in the mild and moderate intensity categories, but the forecasts are poor in heavy intensity and very heavy. Based on the cumulative rainfall value, WRF tends to be over-estimated than TRMM rainfall and Observation. Keywords: WRF, Grell 3D Ensemble, Verification, Forecast, Rainfall.
