Abstract

AHMAD RAIS GINANJAR. The Comparison Among pH Value, Dry Matter Digestibility, Total VFA and N-Ammonia Concentration on Sorghum Straw and It’s Silage by In vitro (Supervised by ARMINA FARIANI and APTRIANSYAH SUSANDA NURDIN). Green forages constraint in Indonesia were an uncontinuous year round supply. This constraint can be through green forages preservations when the production is plentiful in the rainy season, one of them was the utilization of silage technology. One of plants that can be used as silage forage is sorghum straw. Both fiber and energy sourced forage have different digestibility value. The objectives of this research was conducted in February to March 2017 at the Experimental and Animal Nutrition and Food Laboratory, Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research were design of the this study in vitro method with the T-Test hypotesis testing model. This study consisted of 2 treatment of T0 (sorghum straw) and T1 (sorghum straw silage) with 4 repetitions in each treatment. The observed variabels included pH value, dry matter digestibility, total concentration of VFA and N-NH3. The results showed that the straw that is done by the process of ensilage had no significant effect (P>0,05) on the pH value and ammonia concentration, but it has a significant effect (P<0,05) on dry matter digestibility and VFA concentration. The conclusion of this study is that the feeds treated by ensilage process do not have a significant effect on the pH value and Ammonia concentration although both are still in normal conditions pH at 6 and have optimal Ammonia production with a concentration of 3.50 mM. Dry matter digestibility in feeds in the form sorghum straw silage has a higher value of 53.4% when compared with sorghum straw of 37,6%. Silage of sorghum straw has a lower VFA concentration value of 70 mM when compared with sorghum straw feed which was not treated by ensilage process of 180 mM.
