Abstract
This research about the characteristic of Partial Discharge (PD) and Breakdown Voltage of kraft paper insulation. This research used kraft paper with a thickness 40 µm. The sample was made with a size of 5 cm x 5 cm. The sample were treated under two different conditions uisng water condensation and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO). After condensing, the kraft paper was then dried with a variation of 12 hours, 24 hours, 36 hours, and 48 hours. Measurement of the Partial Discharge and Breakdown Voltage was carried out with needle-plane electrode system using High Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) between the sample surface and the needle electrode with the gap of 0.1 mm. From the measurement results on sample which were given water condensate, it can be seen that the discharge and Breakdown Voltage tend to increase. The highest Partial Discharge of kraft paper samples given water after recovery was in the recovery time of 24 hours, which was 1.864 kV, while the highest value of Breakdown Voltage was the recovery time of 48 hours, which was 2.773 kV. For the measurement of kraft paper samples given VCO, it can be seen that the Partial Discharge and the Breakdown Voltage have increased. The highest Partial Discharge of kraft paper samples given VCO was the recovery time of 12 hours, which was 1.8778 kV, while the Breakdown Voltage value was 36 hours, which was 3.0398 kV. The increase in Partial Discharge and Breakdown Voltage in kraft paper were given water condensate and kraft paper were given VCO affected by the capacitance in kraft paper, temperature, and humidity.
