Abstract

Indonesia currently has frequent natural disasters such as earthquakes. In the event of an earthquake, the columns on the edge of the building will receive more loads. Column can be said as an element that will pass the load from the main building structure to the foundation. Columns are the main elements of a building that can continue building loads including: live loads, dead loads, and wind loads. Columns have a very big contribution so that the building does not collapse easily. Columns require additional structural elements so that the load acting on the column elements can be borne by the column. One way is to add confinement with the aim of preventing large stresses due to vertical loads so that the column does not shorten. The use of Lightweight Concrete as a substitute for Normal Concrete is one way to reduce the weight of the building load and reduce the risk of structural collapse during an earthquake. In this study, the ANSYS program is used which works with numerical analysis methods to see the performance of columns lightweight concrete with reinforcement against cyclic lateral loads. For research normal concrete, it will be validated by experimental research conducted by Ha (2016), then the material properties in ANSYS will be changed to lightweight concrete. The output resulting is the maximum load and displacement with the results of the ANSYS program and the difference is a maximum of 10% from the results of experimental research conducted by Ha (2016). For the direction of the thrust loading has a difference of 9.36% and the tensile loading is 7.91%. The average ductility for Normal Concrete is 2.782 and the average ductility for Lightweight Concrete is 2.821.
