Abstract

This research is based on the importance of understanding the dangers of smoking. The purpose of that research was to determine students' understanding of the dangers of smoking in SMA N 3 Palembang. This research used quantitative method with a descriptive design. The population and sample in the study were 100 class XI students. The sampling technique used was proportional random sampling. The data collection technique used a questionnaire. The results showed that from the results of the study the understanding of class XI students at SMA Negeri 3 Palembang regarding the dangers of smoking, half of the students did not fully understand the dangers of smoking, both the impact of smoking, the causal factors, and the characteristics of people who have addiction to cigarettes in the data. The students' understanding falls into the medium category, namely 54%. With these data it can be concluded that the understanding of class XI students at SMA Negeri 3 Palembang is in the medium category. Keywords: The dangers of smoking.
