Abstract

The circulation of negative stigma and labels “wrong target” which is often addressed to bidikmisi students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Sriwijaya University causes some students had a self efficacy problems, so social support is needed to improve the self efficacy of bidikmisi FISIP Unsri students. The purpose of this research is to know and understand the life background and forms of social support provided by peers to bidikmisi FISIP Unsri students who had a self-efficacy problems and are studied using the theory of symbolic interactionism from George Herbert Mead. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a qualitative descriptive type. Data collection techniques used in this study are in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. As for the results of this study, it is known economically there are several bidikmisi students who work part time and often participate in giveaways to get extra money, while socially there are bidikmisi students who come frome divorce families and orphans. Furthermore, this research also show that the forms of social support provided by peers to improve their self efficacy is divided into four, there are: emotional support (emphaty, concern, and caring), appreciation support (motivation and positive words), instrumental support (physical assistance such as helping with assignments), and informative support (advice, suggestions, and instructions).
