Abstract

This study aims to determine and describe the correlation between emotional intelligence and the ability to interpret drama texts in class VIII SMP students. This research is a quantitative research. The research method used in this study is a survey method with a correlation approach. This study used a sample of class VIII.1 totaling 32 students. The sample was selected using the Cluster Random Sampling technique. The data collection technique used a questionnaire to collect emotional intelligence data and a multiple choice test technique to collect data on the ability to interpret drama texts. Data analysis techniques in terms of data processing using simple correlation and regression analysis formulas. Calculation of data was assisted by using the SPSS 21 application. The results of the study were based on hypothesis testing proving that there was a relationship between emotional intelligence and the ability to interpret drama texts for VIII grade students of junior high school with the correlation value or relationship value R = 0.581, the simple regression test value was 0.836 and the tcount test was 3.907> from t table 3.494, it can be concluded that there is a correlation between emotional intelligence and the ability to interpret drama texts in class VIII SMP students.
