Abstract

Semprawang ( Dillenia alata ) is a plant of the Dillenia genus which is traditionally used for the treatment of diseases. The leaves of D. alata are used as a medicine for scabies. The scientific information of D. alata plant is very limited. The aims of research were to isolate and antibacterial activity test of secondary metabolite compounds from the ethyl acetate fraction of D. alata stem bark. The research was initiated by extraction using maceration method with solvents with increasing polarity. The separation and purification were carried out using the chromatography methods and the structure of the isolated compound was determined by analyzing the spectroscopic data including FT-IR, 1 H-NMR and 13 C-NMR and by comparing the spectroscopic data literatur. Antibacterial activity test was carried out using the disc diffusion method with Escerichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus as the test bacteria. The pure compound was a white crystals as much as 62 mg. Based on the analysis of spectroscopic data and comparing with the literatur, the isolate compound is triterpenoid group that is betulinic acid. The isolated compound showed antibacterial activity with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) at 120 g/mL.
