Abstract
Abstract Steel is a type of metal material in which steel often experiences problems, namely corrosion. In the turning process by giving coolant, it is an important factor to inhibit corrosion of metals. This study aims to determine the effect of providing a variety of lubricants as a cooling medium on the corrosion rate of turning using low carbon steel. These variations of lubricants use SAE20 oil lubricants, SAE40 Oil Lubricants, SAE90 Oil Lubricants and Collant Fluids as comparison media. This study uses experimental methods. The results of the research that have been done show that there is a difference in the corrosion rate. The results show that turning using SAE 40 lubricating oil has the slowest rate of spreading corrosion compared to other lubricant variations based on visual observations and based on calculations with a weight loss value of 9.46 grams and a percentage of damage of 6.47%. In terms of the effect produced during the turning process, the use of SAE 40 oil lubricating media should only be used in the turning finishing process.
