Abstract

This research examines Pak Ogah's Actions in Overcoming Traffic Congestion in Palembang City (Case Study of Pak Ogah in Ilir Barat I District). This study aims to explain the description of the actions taken by someone who is Pak Ogah in managing traffic in Ilir Barat I District, Palembang city. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews and documentation. This study uses Max Weber theory of social action. The results showed that the actions taken by someone who became Pak Ogah in managing traffic in Ilir Barat I Subdistrict, Palembang city were influenced by the existence of considerations based on the reason for being Pak Ogah which was generally done because the economic conditions were still insufficient, and It is difficult to find jobs because of the very low educational background, so that being Pak Ogah is an alternative choice that Pak Ogah feels is the most appropriate for the perpetrators of Pak Ogah, where by being Pak Ogah the hopes and goals of the perpetrator are Pak Ogah to get additional income to meet the needs of life which can be obtained from voluntary giving by helping smooth traffic in the midst of congestion at the crossroads, besides that being Pak Ogah is also felt to be something that does not require special conditions so that it is easy for everyone to do. Pak Ogah's understanding of how to describe traffic jams was obtained based on the same experiences and actions that he often saw, so that in certain conditions this becomes a reference for them to take action, both regarding how to manage traffic, how to communicate and interact socially with motorists, determining the right time to operate as a Pak Ogah as well as the equipment needed to operate as a Pak Ogah.
