Abstract

During a pandemic, consumer behavior tends to lead to changing situations. The pattern of transactions in the food aspect has begun to change to be online based. The consumers decision to choose the type of purchase is influenced by certain factors. The objectives of this study aPre (1) to describe the characteristics of consumers who purchase basic foodstuffs offline and online during the pandemic period in Palembang City (2) Describe the process of making consumer decisions in purchasing staple foods offline and online during the pandemic period in Palembang City. (3) Analyze what factors influence consumer decisions in purchasing staple foods offline or online during the pandemic period in Palembang City. Data collection activities were carried out in March 2021 in Palembang City. The research method used in this study is a survey method using google form as a medium for distributing questionnaires. The method used in sampling in this study is purposive sampling. Data collection methods are primary and secondary data. The characteristics of consumers who purchase basic foodstuffs online in general, in 26-35 years age group, female, have a job as a housewife, have a diploma/bachelor's degree, have an income of > IDR 3,500,000, and have a family of 4-6 people. The process of making online purchasing decisions and offline purchases goes through the stages of problem identification, information retrieval, evaluation of alternatives, purchasing decisions, and post-purchase behavior. There are several differences, including the motivation to make a purchase, the information search stage, the alternative evaluation stage, and how to make decisions. The variables of age, education, price, and promotion have a significant effect on consumer decisions in purchasing staple foods online.
