Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was aimed to design of pineapple leaf fiber spinner, test the effective capacity, theoretical capacity, and efficiency of the pineapple leaf fiber spinner, and determine the tensile strength and elongation of the pineapple leaf fiber yarn. This research was conducted from October 2020 to March 2021, Workshop and Agricultural Machinery Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Inderalaya. This research method consists of three stages, namely the design approach stage consisting of a series of activities including determination of design criteria, functional design and structural design, manufacturing and assembly stage, structural design testing stage, functional and performance testing. The results showed that the tensile strength test obtained on 30 strands of pineapple leaf fiber is 293.27 N, 50 strands of 401.85 N, and 70 strands of 510.24 N. The test of elongation on pineapple leaf fiber yarn produces 30 strands of 16.90 %, 50 strands of 23.52%, and 70 strands of 36.01%. The effective capacity of the pineapple leaf fiber spinner with a speed of 1484 rpm within 60 seconds is 0.083 g /s, 0.130 g/s, and 0.195 g/s. Theoretical capacity value of the pineapple leaf fiber spinner is 0.095 g/s, 0.140 g/s, and 0.198 g/s which gets the result of efficiency value of the pineapple leaf fiber spinner tool which is 87.4%, 92.9%, and 98.5%
