Abstract

This experiment to obtained the characteristics of breakdown voltage in parchment paper insulation impregnated with diala B oil and parafin oil. Materials that used in this test was a rectangular sheet of parchment paper with dimension 5 cm x 5 cm and 70 µm thicknes. the test was carried out using a needle-plane electrode configuration with alternating high voltage at a gap between the sample surface of 1 mm. The test results showed a significant effect of paraffin oil and diala B oil on the insulation strength of parchment paper in electrical stress. The average value of the breakdown voltage of the parchment paper insulation without treatment is 1.97 kV. The results showed that diala B oil and paraffin oil were able to increase the dielectric resistance of sample to withstood given electrical stress. The increase of breakdown value of parchment paper insulation when using diala B oil was 26.04%, while paraffin oil was able to increase up to 29.04%. This is possible because the parchment sample is better at absorbing paraffin oil by 17.861% than diala B oil, so it can be seen from the results of this measurement, paraffin oil impregnated paper is slightly better at resisting electrical stress than diala B oil impregnated paper.
