Abstract
This study discusses the electrical treeing phenomenon that occurs in 1 mm thick epoxy resin + SiO2 mixed insulation with neat EP, EP + 1 wt% SiO2, and EP + 3 wt% SiO2 variations by using leaf-like sample model electrode system with 1 mm gap. All specimens were subjected under AC voltage 50 Hz. Some parameters such as tree inception voltage, tree shape, tree length, and accumulation damage are studied. The voltage will be increased to 1 kV, 2 kV, and 3 kV right after tree initiated to observe its influence to electrical tree growth. The highest value of inception voltage is found in EP + 3 wt% SiO2 specimen that equals to 5,16 kV. Filled specimens are more likely to form bush type tree, compared to pure epoxy resin specimens that only formed branch type tree. The lowest value of tree length is found in EP + 3 wt% SiO2 specimen with +1 kV, +2 kV, and +3 kV addition voltage consecutively equal to 90,37 µm, 171,65 µm, and 244,13 µm. And the lowest value of accumulated damage for +1 kV addition voltage is found in EP + 1 wt% SiO2 specimen that equals to 2,20 × 103 pixels, while the lowest value of accumulated damage for +2 kV and +3 kV addition voltage are found in EP + 3 wt% SiO2 consecutively equal to 4,70 × 103 pixels and 6,93 × 103 pixels.
