Abstract

Penelitian ini berjenis survei, dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan kemampuan menulis karangan narasi siswa kelas VIII SMP Adabiyah Palembang, khususnya dalam penulisan alur (pendahuluan, perkembangan, dan penutup) dan struktur bahasa (kaidah ejaan). Penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas VIII.3 SMP Adabiyah Palembang. Jumlah siswa yang diteliti adalah 28 orang. Terdiri dari 15 orang laki-laki dan 13 perempuan. Pemilihan subjek dilakukan menggunakan teknik purposive, karena hasil belajar rata-rata kelas bahasa Indonesia 65 (nilai rapor semester ganjil tahun pelajaran 2008/2009). Data penelitian didapat melalui tes menulis. Jenis karangan narasi yang dipilih adalah narasi sugestif (fiksi), sedangkan materi tes esai tentang kemampuan siswa menulis narasi. Analisis data menggunakan penskoran berdasarkan unsur-unsur yang terdapat di dalam karangan narasi (Depdiknas, 2006:12). Hasil penelitian diketahui sebanyak 23 orang atau 82,14% siswa yang mendapatkan nilai 76—100, sedangkan siswa yang mendapatkan nilai kurang dari 76—10 hanya 5 orang atau sebesar 17,86%. Rata-rata kemampuan siswa adalah 78,14. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan siswa tergolong baik. Dengan demikian, hipotesis penelitian yang menyatakan, ”Siswa kelas VIII SMP Adabiyah Palembang kurang mampu menulis karangan narasi” ternyata tidak terbukti atau hipotesis ditolak.
